2010 Chicago United Lineup Announcement
The full line-up for Chicago United has been announced and we could not be more excited to be coming back to the historic Music Box Theatre for our second year in Chicago. This year features some amazing Chicago premieres as well as great films by local filmmakers.
Our opening night features Special When Lit, which follows the rise and fall of the pop culture icon of pinball, and we're excited to have the Chicago premiere of this nostalgic documentary in the town where pinball began. Saturday features the inspiring documentary The Street Stops Here, about basketball couch Bob Hurley, Sr. followed by the hilarious environmentally charged mockumentary Beyond The Pole. Saturday night we are showcasing the premiere of Ballhawks, with Bill Murray narrating the story of the group of men who have been chasing baseballs and dreams just outside the ivy-covered walls of Wrigley Field, for the last one-hundred years. Filmmakers, students, and anyone with a passion for film cannot miss Official Rejection, an inside look at the world of film festivals.
Come out Sunday for a series of thought-provoking political documentaries, including Divorcing God, which explores what happens when biblical ideals collide with the modern realities of young Christian newlyweds, and The Minutemen, a cinema verite look at the men who have taken it upon themselves to enforce immigration laws at the Mexican/U.S. border.
On Monday night, soak up the summer with RiffRaff, a comedy about lifeguards on Chicago's North Avenue Beach. Tuesday ignites your inner activist with a night of animal rights documentaries, The Elephant in the Living Room and Beneath The Blue. And you cannot miss our closing night films, the baffling and intriguing Eat The Sun and the quirky Biker Fox, a character who has to be seen to be believed.
We'll be showing Midnight Movies of the John Hughes' classic Ferris Bueller's Day Off on Friday and Predator on Saturday, as well as free blocks of short films during the week. Many films will feature Q&As with the filmmakers, so be sure to come out for what is sure to be the most fun and diverse Chicago United Film Festival yet!
